After the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941 “Tashme” was used as a Japanese internment camp. Between 1942 and 1946 twenty-four hundred Japanese-Canadian people were housed there. The site is currently the community Sunshine Valley. In Hope, there's a “Tashme Friendship Garden” dedicated to the Japanese-Canadians who were interned during World War II. |
